Geographer, Associate Professor at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA), School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH), Lisbon, Portugal, and Visiting Professor (2005-2020) at Polytechnic University of Catalonia, BarcelonaTech (UPC), Faculty of Architecture, CPSV, Spain. He was Director of Centre for Geographical and Regional Planning Studies (e-GEO, NOVA FCSH), between 2003 and 2008, member of the Executive Committee of the Department of Geography and Regional Planning of NOVA FCSH (2008-2013), Director of M.Sc. in Territorial Management at NOVA FCSH (2008-2013), Director of M.Sc. in Spatial Planning & GIS (e-Learning) at NOVA FCSH (2010-2013), and Director of PhD in Geography  and Territorial Planning at NOVA FCSH (2020 – …).

Graduated in Geography and Regional Planning (1984) at NOVA FCSH. He attended Sorbonne University, Faculty of Science & Engineering, where he post-graduate (DESS in 1991) in Remote Sensing and the Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne (UPEC), École d’Urbanisme de Paris (EUP) to obtained Ph.D. (1998) in Urbanism. His main scientific areas of research is Sustainable Cities and Territories, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, and Geographical Modeling. He has published more than 150 papers (book chapters, papers in periodic with scientific refereeing, papers in conference proceedings with scientific refereeing).

In 2013 he received the (first prize) SANTANDER Award for the Internationalization of the FCSH Scientific Production 2013. In 2015, for the second time, he received the (first prize) SANTANDER Award for the Internationalization of the FCSH Scientific Production 2015 (ex aequo).
