Mid 19th century maps from Tróia Peninsula (Grândola) indicated the existence of a site name “Fishermen’s sacks”. The site was located and partially excavated in 2019. It presents the characteristics of a village where about a dozen sacks were accommodating people who lived there approximately between 1850 and 1920.
The architecture, equipment, food remains and material culture reveal the presence of a maritime population with specific social and cultural characteristics, directly related to their life at sea.
